Quick Guide: Uncovering Repurchase Patterns - Starting with a Specific Product

In today's fast-paced business world, understanding your customer's repurchase patterns is essential to making informed decisions about your product line and marketing strategies.

In this guide, we'll show you how to quickly isolate the returning customer rate for customers whose first order was a specific product, in this case, "Lemon Fresh Cleaner." We'll walk you through the process of creating a custom segment and show you how to use it to analyze repurchase patterns using By the Numbers, a Shopify app.

Getting started with Repurchase Patterns Analysis:

First, if you haven't already installed By the Numbers, do so. It has a free 14-day trial and no credit card is needed.

Creating a Custom Segment:

Creating a custom segment is a simple process that can be done in a few steps. To start, go to the Segment section of your analytics dashboard and click on the "Create Segment" button. Next, use the filter "Purchased Product (First Order Only)" and set it to "Equal" the product "Lemon Fresh Cleaner." This will create a segment of customers whose first order was that product.

Analyzing Repurchase Patterns:

Once you have created your custom segment, you can apply it to the Returning Customer Rate report. To do this, go to the Returning Customer Rate report (https://bythenumbersapp.com/reports/customer_return_rate) and look for the "Segment" drop-down. Here you can select the custom segment that you have just created.

This will give you an idea of the repeat purchase rate specifically for customers whose first order was "Lemon Fresh Cleaner." You can also use this custom segment in other reports to analyze repurchase patterns for related products and gain a better understanding of how customers behave after their first purchase.

Deploying Retention and Repurchase Campaigns:

By using the customer retention numbers provided by your custom segment, you can deploy more sophisticated retention and repurchase campaigns by easily seeing which marketing campaigns performed better with regards to customer retention. You can drop poorer-performing campaigns or double down on more successful ones.
